Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of hematologists and other medical professionals who wish to increase their knowledge regarding advances in evaluating and treating inhibitors in patients with hemophilia A and B.
Educational Objectives
After reading the course material and taking the post-test, participants should be able to:
- Discuss new data on inhibitor biology as it relates to the development of inhibitors to Factor VIII and IX.
- Evaluate appropriate approaches to the diagnosis and characterization of inhibitors to Factor VIII and IX.
- Assess opportunities to reduce incidence and complications related to inhibitors.
- Assess appropriate treatment approaches to acute bleeds.
- Discuss alternative approaches to immune tolerance induction.
Educational Need
Our understanding of inhibitor biology in hemophilia A and B has increased dramatically over the past five years, contributing to new approaches to diagnosis, characterization, prevention and bleed management with potentially important implications for patient care. The purpose of this educational program is to bring together leaders in the field to review and evaluate current data, to summarize and assess the most promising ongoing research, and to identify priorities for future research. This will help clinical leaders as they plan future therapies and will help participants in the journal-based CME program to better assess existing and potential new approaches to inhibitor treatment.
