Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons, pathologists and other medical professionals who assess and treat patients with colon and rectal cancers.

Educational Objectives
Following completion of this activity, participants should be able to discuss: current approaches and issues in diagnosing and defining stage II disease, how surgeons can contribute to preoperative staging and postsurgical assessment and treatment decisions, criteria for determining when adjuvant chemotherapy is appropriate in early-stage disease, and criteria for determining when biologic therapy is appropriate in early-stage disease.

Educational Need
Physicians and surgeons who assess, counsel and treat patients with colon and rectal cancers need to be aware of new approaches and multidisciplinary issues in sample dissection, staging, diagnosis, neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment, and planned clinical trials.  The manuscripts and edited discussion in this publication and the summary statement that comprises the basis of this CME activity, represent current recommendations and perspectives from a multidisciplinary faculty representing many of the leaders in this field.
