Advances in Treating Metastatic Bone Cancer
First Cambridge Conference - October 2005
This program was based on a conference of multidisciplinary leaders in bone cancer research and clinical care. The focus of the program was to review new data, assess where we are, highlight what is important and promising, and make recommendations for future research. The conference developed content for an educational proceedings summarizing recent progress and outlining priorities for research and clinical care.
The program was directed by Allan Lipton, MD, Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, James R. Berenson, MD, The Institute for Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research, Robert E. Coleman, MD, FRCP, Cancer Research Centre, Weston Park Hospital, Theresa A. Guise, MD, University of Virginia, and Matthew R. Smith, MD, PhD, Massachusetts General Hospital.
The proceedings of the meeting were published as a peer-reviewed supplement to the journal Clinical Cancer Research (CCR, Vol 12 (20 Suppl), pp 6209s-6212s, October 15, 2006), including a CME activity based on the consensus summary. Links to the table of contents, consensus summary statement, and journal website are below. The CME activity is no longer active.
Statement of Need
Our understanding of the biology of bone cancer is rapidly emerging, leading to a variety of new approaches to treatment. The purpose of this program is to bring together leaders in the field to survey, evaluate, and summarize where we are, what is expected to be most promising, and what is recommended for future research. This will help thought leaders as they plan future therapies and will help participants in the journal-based CME activity to understand where existing and potential new therapies are headed.
Educational Grant Support
Supported by educational grants provided by: Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Abbott, Amgen, and Chugai Pharmaceuticals.
Sponsorship
CME sponsorship was provided by InforMEDical Communications, Inc.
