Innovations and Challenges in Melanoma

First Cambridge Conference - July 2005

This program was based on a conference of multidisciplinary leaders in melanoma research and clinical care. The focus of the program was on new perspectives on the epidemiology, biology and pathology of melanoma; new data and perspectives on staging and local/ regional therapies; new approaches to adjuvant therapy/vaccines/ immune monitoring; new approaches to immunotherapy for advanced disease; and new molecularly-targeted therapies for advanced disease. The program developed content for a peer reviewed educational publication for oncologists and other health care professionals who wish to expand their understanding of new approaches to assessing and treating melanoma.

The program was directed by Michael B. Atkins, MD , Director, Cutaneous Oncology and Biological Therapy Programs, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Educational Objectives
1) Discuss new perspectives on the epidemiology, biology and pathology of melanoma; 2) discuss new data and perspectives on staging and local/regional therapies; 3) assess new approaches to adjuvant therapy/vaccines/immune monitoring; 4) assess new approaches to immunotherapy for advanced disease; and 5) assess new molecularly-targeted therapies for advanced disease.
