Recent Advances and Future Directions in Endocrine Manipulation of Breast Cancer
Fourth Cambridge Conference - June 2004
This program was based on a conference of multidisciplinary leaders in breast cancer research and clinical care. The focus of the program was on basic and clinical research related to new endocrine agents.
The program was directed by Aman U. Buzdar, MD, MD Anderson Cancer Center and Steven E. Come, MD, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Educational Objectives
1) Understand current concepts of estrogen receptor function and its role, and interactions between estrogen and non-estrogen cellular pathways in breast cancer biology; 2) discuss mechanisms of action of present endocrine therapies and mechanisms of resistance to treatment; 3) describe the use and sequence of endocrine therapies in breast cancer prevention and in early and advanced disease; and 4) assess directions for future research in breast cancer prevention and treatment, including new targets and combinations of molecularly targeted agents with endocrine therapies.
