New Approaches to Assessing and Treating Early-stage Colon and Rectal Cancer

January 2007

This program of multidisciplinary leaders in colon and rectal cancer research and treatment was directed by Lee S. Rosen, MD, Premiere Oncology, and Anton J. Bilchik, MD, PhD, FACS, John Wayne Cancer Institute. 

Educational Objectives
(1) Discuss current approaches and issues in diagnosing and defining stage II disease; (2) discuss how surgeons can contribute to preoperative staging and postsurgical assessment and treatment decisions; (3) discuss criteria for determining when adjuvant chemotherapy is appropriate in early-stage disease; and (4) discuss criteria for determining when biologic therapy is appropriate in early-stage disease.
