Statement of Need
Recent progress in the treatment of patients with advanced renal cancer is impressive. There are now three potentially distinct targets and related therapeutic approaches available: VEGF +/- PDGF; mTOR and immunotherapy. However there is still considerable need for further advances in clinical research, disease assessment and treatment, and physician education. The purpose of this multidisciplinary program is to review, assess and summarize recent advances and recommendations to advance research and patient care, including: new ways biology is informing approaches to prognosis and therapy; recent advances in prognostic classification and their potential therapeutic impact; new data on approved and emerging therapies; and recommendations for future clinical research; and to summarize their findings to benefit other medical professionals who treat and care for renal cancer patients.
